Pit 107: Level 2

Completed on May 22, 2020, by Art Coogler, DC Locke, Kyle Markey, and Odess and David Brinkman. As usual, Granby period artifact counts picked up in level two, but we were still dealing with the 1960s road and driveway asphalt. This is a sign that the making of Brookcliff drive, in 1962, pushed artifacts into this area where they mixed with modern-day items. Several stoneware pieces were familiar, but two of them showed a new light-steel-blue glaze color. A small flat piece of lead was found, which may have been shaped by a tooth. People during this time would relieve tooth pain by biting on a piece of lead. The level also gave us seven Native American pottery pieces and a broken point (maybe a bird point arrowhead.) This is the fourth point found in the dig. Among the many brick pieces, several of them (including a large custom rounded piece) would later become significant after the biggest find in level three.

Pit 107: Level 2 produced: Granby period: eight kitchen pottery, five stoneware, seven kitchen glass, ten window glass, two slate, one lead piece, one iron, five square nails, and eight slag. Native American: Seven pottery, and a broken point.
