Pit 46: Level 1

Completed August 25, 2013 by Jim Merrill, Debbie Bloom, Dean Hunt, DC Locke, and David Brinkman. Jim joined us for the first time today as part of Intel Involved. It was good to also see a return of our "Dead Librarian" (Debbie). We had a little excitement at the start when I attempted to adjust a water valve in the bathroom of the Granby house and the valve connect popped off. It seems the "so-called" Electrician/Plumber didn't glue his PVC connections. Anyway, it took about 20 minutes for me to get the main water line turned off (much thanks to my neighbor Kay who provided the necessary tool) and another 20 minutes to mop up the house. We finally got started and level 1 was about average for the hot spot area of the property. We found a large piece of the bottom of a green bottle which proved to be very significant. This piece was found in level 1 but, by mistake, I included it in the level 2 photographs. See level 2 to get the lowdown on this key find. We didn't find any pottery until the very bottom of level 1 so we were hopeful that level 2 would bring good artifacts. Like found in a couple of neighbor pits, Jim found more pieces of the Indigo colored cloth. We also found 2 types of pottery we have not seen before.

Pit 46: Level 1 produced: 6 pieces of pottery, 5 pieces of glass, and 2 cloth pieces.
