Pit 148: Level 1

Completed on November 12, 2021, by Jocelyn and DC Locke, Odess and David Brinkman. Once again we were in the highly disturbed area off Brookcliff Drive where a storm drain was installed about 40 to 50 years ago. Level 1 in this area is a mess with Granby items mixed in with hundreds of pieces of clay, asphalt, concrete, and modern bricks. Pit 148 was no different. We thought we had found a small brass (or pewter) button but the size seems to be exactly what you would expect from the tire hubcap of a Matchbox toy car. A small magnet was also found which may be the stator of a small electric motor. Besides these finds, we had a handfull of Granby and Native American items. The modern day junk accounted for most of what was pulled out in the sifting.

Pit 148: Level 1 produced: Three pottery, two Granby era kitchen glass and six window glass pieces, three Native Amercan pottery pieces, a nail, and the mystery button like item.

The small button like item could be a jean button (like below) but is, more likely, the hub cap of a matchbox toy car.

Below is some of the modern asphalt, concrete, and brick that came out of this distubbed area.
