Pit 109: Level 3

Completed on September 7, 2020 by Jocelyn and DC Locke, Odess and David Brinkman. Level three continued to tell the same story as Pit 48. We saw small numbers of Granby items (pottery, window glass, and nails) and an increase in green bottle glass which may be pre-Granby. A Native American cutting stone was also found. And, as we predicted, we found old hardened/cooked brick which is probably an indication of a fireplace. The overall conclusion is that the decreasing numbers of Granby architecture elements (nails, and window glass) and Granby pottery and the increasing numbers of pre-Granby pipe means one thing. This area is most likely near the fireplace of a log cabin which may have belonged to the area's first Indian trader Thomas Brown. We had planned to do one more pit at this location but I think these results are enough for now. We will probably move the dig back towards the known Granby house. Overall, Pit 109 gave us 43 artifacts which is well below the average of 167.

Pit 109: Level 3 produced: three pieces of pottery, seven pieces of glasss, six nails, and a Native America cutting tool.
